Job Purpose
The Local Security Associate reports to the Security Officer for supervision. The Security Associate provides technical, operational, and administrative assistance to the Supervisor in support of their role in ensuring the safety and security of personnel and their eligible family members, as well as the safeguarding of UNICEF premises, assets, and resources at the duty station. The incumbent is expected to follow instructions precisely and in strict compliance with supervisor’s instructions and UN Security related policies, rules, and procedures. This role is crucial for maintaining a secure environment for UNICEF operations and staff in Afghanistan.
Responsibilities
The Security Associate will be responsible for providing technical, operational, and administrative assistance to the Security Officer. Key functions include Security Planning, where the incumbent will support the development and implementation of security plans. In Safety and Security Services, they will assist in monitoring the security situation, conducting physical security surveys, and ensuring compliance with security policies. Security Networking involves supporting the establishment and maintenance of communication with relevant stakeholders. Furthermore, the role includes Support in Knowledge Management and Capacity Building, by assisting in the dissemination of security information and potentially contributing to training activities. The associate will also assist in incident reporting and response, ensuring that all security-related events are documented and addressed according to established protocols. This position requires diligent adherence to UN Security policies and procedures to safeguard UNICEF personnel and assets.
Work Experience
A minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience in a security-related environment is required. This includes experience in security operations, security management, risk assessment, emergency preparedness, incident management, access control, crisis response, liaison and coordination, training and capacity building, and safety compliance.
