Job Purpose

The Immunization Specialist provides strategic leadership and technical support on immunization programmes, ensuring their integration within Primary Health Care (PHC) and strengthening health systems to deliver effective, equitable, and sustainable immunization services. This role involves managing and coordinating the Immunization/EPI team, overseeing programme planning, implementation, monitoring, and results achievement. The specialist will promote integrated approaches across health programmes and provide technical guidance and operational support throughout the programme cycle. Applying results-based management (RBM) principles is crucial to strengthen PHC, build resilient health systems, and improve health outcomes for children and communities in Somalia.

Responsibilities

The Immunization Specialist is responsible for programme development and planning, ensuring alignment with UNICEF's strategic goals and national health priorities. They will manage, monitor, and ensure the delivery of results for immunization programmes, adhering to RBM principles. Providing technical support and thought leadership in immunization and health systems strengthening is a key function. This includes offering guidance on best practices, innovative approaches, and evidence-based interventions. The role also involves advocacy, networking, and partnership building with government counterparts, NGOs, UN agencies, and other stakeholders to promote immunization coverage and equity. Furthermore, the specialist will drive innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building within the immunization sector, sharing lessons learned and promoting best practices across the country and region.

Work Experience

A minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience in Health, Health Care, Primary Health Care, Program Management, Policy Development, Emergency Preparedness, Partnership Building, or Capacity Building.
