Job Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to provide confidential, demand-based psychosocial support services to UNICEF personnel in Ukraine, a prolonged emergency context. This includes offering short-term individual counselling, crisis support following critical incidents or acute stress events, and structured wellbeing workshops. The consultant will play a crucial role in strengthening staff resilience, supporting psychological stabilization during emergencies, promoting adaptive coping strategies, and ensuring timely referral to specialized care when needed. This role complements the National Staff Counsellor by providing flexible, surge capacity to address the significant psychological strain on staff members due to ongoing hostilities, infrastructure disruptions, displacement, and security risks.
Responsibilities
The consultant will provide confidential, short-term individual counselling sessions to UNICEF personnel upon direct request, ensuring timely crisis support and psychological first response following critical incidents, acute stress events, or other emergency-related situations. This includes conducting brief psychosocial assessments and providing appropriate support within the scope of short-term counselling. The consultant will identify cases requiring specialized, psychiatric, medical, or long-term psychological care and provide appropriate referrals in coordination with the Staff Counsellor, ensuring all support is ethical, professionally bounded, and aligned with recognized counselling standards. Additionally, the consultant will develop and deliver at least four remote wellbeing workshops annually, each lasting approximately 60–90 minutes, with topics agreed upon in consultation with the National Staff Counsellor based on emerging needs and organizational priorities. These workshops may cover psychosocial wellbeing, coping in high-stress environments, crisis recovery, resilience-building, and adaptive stress management. The consultant will also participate in regular coordination meetings with the National Staff Counsellor and submit monthly aggregated reports on activities and outcomes.
Work Experience
Minimum of five years of professional experience in providing counselling and psychosocial support, with at least two years in a humanitarian or emergency context. Experience in delivering remote counselling and facilitating online workshops is required. Experience working with international organizations is an asset.
