Job Purpose
This role supports UNICEF's mandate and equity-focused approach by ensuring vulnerable children, especially those affected by the recent earthquakes in Venezuela, have timely access to quality health and nutrition services. The Health & Nutrition Officer will be crucial in strengthening technical and operational capacity to support the planning, implementation, monitoring, and coordination of interventions targeting populations most affected by the emergency. The position aims to safeguard the survival, health, nutrition, and overall development of children and adolescents, contributing to the recovery of essential health and nutrition services and empowering communities in response to public health risks.
Responsibilities
The Health & Nutrition Officer will be responsible for coordinating and implementing outreach health services, providing support for community-based primary health care, and conducting monitoring and field supervision. Key duties include engaging communities and managing risk communication, building capacity, and providing technical support to local partners and health workers. The role also involves contributing to the community recovery of essential health and nutrition services, fostering community empowerment, and responding effectively to public health risks exacerbated by the emergency. This includes ensuring the integration of health and nutrition interventions within the broader humanitarian response, aligning with UNICEF's strategic objectives and emergency protocols.
Work Experience
A minimum of one year of professional experience in planning, programming, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of health programs is required. Experience in program management or as a technical expert in child survival and healthcare, along with field work and emergency background, is also necessary.
