Job Purpose
The consultancy aims to comprehensively and preventively assess all potential impacts of the installation of incinerators and associated works on the natural and human environment. The objective is to avoid, reduce, or compensate for these impacts, and to propose a framework for responsible, acceptable, and sustainable implementation. This role involves coordinating team activities, drafting progress reports, guiding team members on activities, specifying methodologies, and organizing exchanges and data collection to ensure a thorough environmental and social impact assessment.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for conducting a thorough environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) for the installation of incinerators in nineteen (19) health facilities in Burkina Faso. This includes identifying potential environmental and social risks and impacts, evaluating their significance, and proposing mitigation and management measures. The consultant will lead the ESIA team, ensuring the quality and timely delivery of all deliverables, including inception reports, draft ESIA reports, and final ESIA reports. They will also be responsible for developing an Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) that outlines the procedures for implementing the proposed mitigation measures. The consultant will engage with stakeholders, including government authorities, local communities, and health facility staff, to gather information and ensure their input is considered in the assessment process. Furthermore, the consultant will ensure compliance with national environmental and social safeguard policies, as well as the environmental and social policies of the World Bank and UNICEF.
Work Experience
At least 7 years of professional experience in environmental and social impact assessments or similar studies, with at least two similar studies conducted in Burkina Faso or similar countries within the last five years. Experience with World Bank, other MDBs, UN, or EU funded projects is required.
