Job Purpose
The consultant will play a crucial role in advancing UNICEF’s digital communication efforts, specifically supporting Phase I of the “Child Rights, Safety and Inclusion in the Digital Environment” agenda. This involves developing compelling content for unicef.org, including rapid-response emergency content and evergreen materials. The consultancy will also contribute to broader web communications and humanitarian response through the creation of editorial products that enhance the visibility and engagement of key institutional, thematic, and programme-related sections of the UNICEF website. A core focus will be on integrating Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), and Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) strategies to ensure content is easily discoverable and engaging across various search platforms and AI-assisted environments.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for developing a defined set of digital editorial products to support the “Child Rights, Safety and Inclusion in the Digital Environment” advocacy and communication agenda, alongside a package of emergency and evergreen content initiatives. This includes researching, writing, editing, structuring, and optimizing publication-ready web content in close collaboration with DGCA focal points, programme and research specialists, and advocacy and communication colleagues. All content produced must adhere to UNICEF's editorial standards and digital best practices. The consultant will be expected to apply SEO, GEO, and AEO tactics to enhance content visibility and audience engagement. This involves conducting keyword research, analyzing search intent, optimizing metadata, and implementing internal linking strategies. The consultant will also leverage web analytics and performance measurement tools, such as Google Analytics (GA4), to interpret audience data and inform content development and optimization strategies. Experience with Drupal CMS is essential for content deployment.
Work Experience
Minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in digital and editorial communications, content strategy, journalism, or a related field. Experience supporting communication products during humanitarian emergencies or working in fast-paced news/crisis communication environments is an asset.
