Job Purpose
The Child Protection Officer (GBV) will provide strategic, technical, and operational leadership to ensure the effective delivery of accessible, safe, and survivor-centered Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention and response interventions. This role is crucial for safeguarding the rights, dignity, and well-being of women, girls, and adolescent girls within both humanitarian and development programming. The incumbent will strengthen integrated GBV programming aligned with UNICEF’s Core Commitments for Children (CCCs), Inter-Agency Minimum Standards for GBV in Emergencies, and national frameworks. This includes promoting cross-sectoral integration of GBV risk mitigation across various sectors and supporting gender mainstreaming efforts to address structural inequalities and harmful social norms, contributing to evidence-based advocacy for appropriate, inclusive, and sustainable GBV and gender interventions.
Responsibilities
The Child Protection Officer (GBV) will support the development and planning of child protection programs, focusing on GBV prevention and response. This includes managing, monitoring, and delivering results for projects, ensuring timely and effective implementation. The role provides essential technical and operational support to program activities, working closely with partners and stakeholders. Building and maintaining strong networks and partnerships with government authorities, UN agencies, NGOs, and community-based organizations is key to successful program delivery. The incumbent will also contribute to innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building initiatives for staff and partners, ensuring that GBV and gender interventions are contextually appropriate, inclusive, and sustainable. This involves strengthening integrated GBV programming in line with UNICEF’s Core Commitments for Children (CCCs) and Inter-Agency Minimum Standards for GBV in Emergencies, promoting cross-sectoral integration of GBV risk mitigation across sectors like health, education, WASH, and nutrition, and supporting gender mainstreaming efforts to address structural inequalities and harmful social norms.
Work Experience
Experience in child protection, GBV prevention and response, and humanitarian settings is required. Experience in programme management, monitoring, and partnership building is also necessary.
