Job Purpose
The Emergency Specialist will establish and implement country office emergency preparedness and response under the guidance of the supervisor. This role is responsible for the development, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of emergency interventions to ensure the survival and well-being of children, mothers, and affected communities during emergencies. The position aims to ensure effective emergency preparedness through contingency plans and early warning mechanisms, addressing gender issues that may intensify during crises. It involves developing emergency plans of action, ensuring compliance and coordination across sectors, and providing technical advice on emergency and programme management. The role also focuses on coordinating emergency preparedness and response efforts within the office and enhancing the emergency response capabilities of UNICEF staff and partners through training.
Responsibilities
Establishes and implements country office emergency preparedness and response plans under the guidance of the supervisor. Develops, plans, implements, monitors, and evaluates emergency interventions to ensure the survival and well-being of children, mothers, and affected communities in emergency situations. Ensures effective emergency preparedness by establishing country contingency plans and early warning mechanisms. Integrates gender issues into emergency preparedness and response plans to address potential intensification during emergencies. Develops emergency plans of action and ensures compliance and coordination of all sectors with these plans. Provides technical advice on emergencies and programme management related to the implementation of emergency preparedness measures. Coordinates emergency preparedness and response activities and ensures a consistent flow of information regarding the humanitarian situation within the office. Conducts effective training activities to achieve substantive improvements in the emergency preparedness and response capability of UNICEF staff and implementing partners. Contributes to the overall humanitarian response efforts in Venezuela, focusing on reaching vulnerable children and families with life-saving assistance.
Work Experience
Minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional work experience at national and international levels in programme/project development, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and administration. Developing country work experience is required.
