Job Purpose
UNICEF Venezuela seeks a seasoned Emergency Manager to lead the Country Office's response to a significant humanitarian operation following major earthquakes. The role involves setting strategic direction for emergency preparedness and response, providing technical leadership across sectors, and representing UNICEF at high-level coordination forums with government, UN agencies, and humanitarian clusters. This position is for a proven crisis leader capable of managing response operations, building and leading teams under pressure, and shaping both immediate relief and long-term recovery strategies for affected children and families.
Responsibilities
The Emergency Manager will lead emergency coordination efforts and manage dedicated teams, ensuring a coherent and timely response to the crisis. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing comprehensive emergency preparedness plans, establishing robust emergency response mechanisms, and overseeing the effective management of emergency projects. This includes ensuring that the separation of children from families is prevented and responded to, and that family-based care is promoted in the children's best interest, in line with UNICEF's core commitments for children in humanitarian action. The role requires significant engagement in assessing evolving needs and responding to child protection concerns. The incumbent will represent UNICEF at the highest levels of coordination with Government, the UN Country Team, and the humanitarian cluster system, fostering strong partnerships and advocating for children's rights and needs.
Work Experience
A minimum of 10 years of professional work experience is required, with progressively greater management responsibilities in social planning, research, and emergency/rehabilitation programmes at national and international levels, focusing on the needs of children and women affected by emergencies.
