Job Purpose

The Programme Specialist (Safeguarding) is a critical role within the Programme Delivery and Quality team, responsible for leading Education Cannot Wait's (ECW) safeguarding work. This includes conducting Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) assessments of partner organizations, managing ECW’s response to safeguarding incidents and concerns involving these partners, and leading capacity strengthening activities. The role is crosscutting, requiring close collaboration with various internal teams such as Finance, Risk & Operations, Evidence, Results and Reporting, and Partnerships, Advocacy and Resource Mobilization. Additionally, the specialist will engage with UNICEF colleagues in safeguarding meetings and with partner organizations receiving ECW funding, ensuring a comprehensive approach to child protection.

Responsibilities

The Programme Specialist will conduct Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) assessments using the UN Common PSEA assessment tool. They will manage ECW’s response to Safeguarding Incidents and Concerns, including reporting to donors and briefing stakeholders. The role involves developing guidance materials and participating in outreach activities to promote safeguarding standards. Furthermore, the specialist will support the design of programme interventions and ensure quality assurance in safeguarding practices. This position requires close collaboration with internal teams and external partner organizations to uphold UNICEF's commitment to protecting children and defending their rights in all programmatic activities.

Work Experience

Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in programme management, child protection, or safeguarding, preferably within an international development or humanitarian context.
