Job Purpose
The purpose of this consultancy is to conduct a comprehensive market study on menstrual hygiene products in Cameroon. The consultant will be responsible for mapping key market players, analyzing the supply chain and distribution channels, and gaining in-depth knowledge of user practices, preferences, and behaviors. The study will also identify barriers to access, review applicable policies and regulations, and explore opportunities for improving the legal and policy framework. Furthermore, the consultant will analyze the cost structure and price levels of menstrual products, assess affordability for different population groups, and identify development opportunities within this market segment. The ultimate goal is to provide actionable insights and guidelines for market development, private sector engagement, and policy advocacy to improve access to menstrual hygiene products.
Responsibilities
The consultant will conduct a comprehensive mapping of key market players, including producers, importers, distributors, and NGOs. They will perform a detailed analysis of the supply chain and distribution channels for menstrual hygiene products. In-depth knowledge of user practices, preferences, and behaviors will be gathered and analyzed. The consultant will structure an analysis of the main barriers to access, covering economic, social, geographical, and cultural aspects. An overview of policies, regulations, and tax frameworks applicable to menstrual products will be provided, along with the identification of existing regulatory constraints and concrete opportunities to improve the legal and policy framework. The cost structure and price levels of menstrual products in the market will be analyzed, assessing affordability for different population groups. Development opportunities in this segment will be identified, and a reliable database from field surveys will be created. Actionable quantitative and qualitative analytics will be produced, along with avenues of intervention for market development using a market-based approach and guidelines for private sector engagement. Finally, the consultant will provide a technical basis for policy advocacy and dialogue with partners.
Work Experience
Minimum 10 years of experience in WASH, Environmental Engineering, Development Economics, Social Sciences, business, and marketing, including at least 5 years of proven experience in conducting market research, value chain analysis, or similar studies in developing countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.
