Job Purpose

The purpose of this consultancy is to conduct a policy and programme landscaping analysis for the Better Eating Practices (BEP) initiative focused on maternal nutrition in Nigeria. The consultant will work under the direct supervision of the Nutrition Manager (Diets and Practices) and with support from the WFP maternal nutrition focal point. This role involves a comprehensive review of existing policies and an assessment of programme management and service delivery related to supplements and BEP. The analysis will inform future strategies and interventions to improve maternal nutrition outcomes in Nigeria. The consultant is expected to provide expert insights and recommendations based on in-depth research and analysis of the current landscape, contributing to UNICEF's mission to support the realization of the rights of every child, especially the most disadvantaged.

Responsibilities

The consultant will be responsible for conducting a thorough policy review and landscape analysis related to maternal nutrition and the Better Eating Practices (BEP) initiative in Nigeria. This includes identifying key policies, strategies, and frameworks at national and sub-national levels that impact maternal nutrition. The consultant will also assess the current programme management and service delivery mechanisms for supplements and BEP, evaluating their effectiveness, reach, and challenges. This assessment will involve gathering data through document review, stakeholder consultations, and potentially surveys or interviews. The consultant will analyze the collected data to identify gaps, opportunities, and best practices. Based on the findings, the consultant will develop actionable recommendations for strengthening policy implementation and programme delivery to improve maternal nutrition outcomes. Additionally, the consultant will be responsible for preparing comprehensive reports and presentations summarizing the analysis and recommendations for UNICEF and relevant stakeholders. The role requires close collaboration with UNICEF and WFP focal points, as well as other relevant government and non-governmental organizations. The consultant must ensure all activities are conducted in a systematic and independent manner, adhering to project timelines and deliverables.

Work Experience

Minimum of 10 years of experience working in maternal and child nutrition policy and programming.
