Health and Nutrition Policy Advocacy Intern, Beijing, UNICEF China, 6 months (Onsite, for Chinese nationals only)

Job Purpose

This internship offers a university student or recent graduate a substantive contribution to UNICEF's child health and nutrition policy work in China. The intern will support evidence-informed advocacy and programme development in selected priority areas, gaining practical experience in policy research, stakeholder engagement, and programme coordination within an international organization. The role is crucial for addressing evolving health and nutrition challenges faced by children in China, which require stronger public policies, high-quality evidence, multisectoral coordination, and sustained advocacy. By contributing to these efforts, the intern will play a part in improving child health and nutrition outcomes through policy interventions, evidence synthesis, and partnership building.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Nutrition Officer, the intern will provide research, analytical, coordination, and knowledge-management support to ongoing health and nutrition policy and advocacy initiatives. Key responsibilities include conducting desk reviews of national and international policy documents, research reports, and academic literature on child health and nutrition priorities such as early childhood care, healthy food environments, and fiscal measures. The intern will support the preparation of policy briefs, evidence summaries, concept notes, presentations, and advocacy materials for diverse audiences. Additionally, they will assist in planning and coordinating technical meetings, consultations, and workshops, including preparing agendas and background materials. The role involves supporting communication and coordination with government counterparts, academic institutions, research organizations, and implementing partners. A crucial aspect will be supporting the translation, editing, formatting, and proofreading of materials in English and Chinese, ensuring accuracy and clarity. The intern will also provide administrative and operational support for programme implementation, consultations, and advocacy activities, including documentation and follow-up, and undertake other assignments as agreed with the supervisor.

Work Experience

Previous experience in research, policy analysis, or programme support, particularly in the context of public health or international development, is an asset. Experience with desk reviews, report writing, and stakeholder engagement is beneficial.
