Job Purpose
Myanmar faces a high burden of malnutrition, including stunting, wasting, and suboptimal feeding practices, exacerbated by socio-economic challenges and service disruptions. Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) is a core UNICEF approach to improve key nutritional behaviours. This consultancy aims to provide sustained technical assistance to strengthen the design, harmonization, implementation, and monitoring of nutrition-focused SBC programming across implementing partners in Myanmar. The consultant will provide SBC technical guidance and coordination support to improve the quality and coherence of nutrition SBC strategies, support partners in applying evidence-based approaches, enhance capacity of frontline workers, and improve monitoring and learning related to SBC interventions.
Responsibilities
The consultant will conduct a situation analysis and programme review, including mapping interventions, reviewing strategies and materials, identifying behavioural determinants and gaps, and providing recommendations for harmonization and scale-up. They will develop or update a Nutrition SBC Framework, define priority behaviours and audience segmentation, and review/develop a national key message matrix and standard SBC package, ensuring alignment with global guidance. Capacity building involves reviewing/updating training modules, conducting Training of Trainers sessions, providing mentoring to frontline workers, and supporting SBC integration into service delivery platforms. Monitoring and evaluation includes developing SBC indicators, strengthening data collection tools, documenting best practices, and preparing progress reports. Coordination and partnership support involves participating in cluster meetings, planning/coordinating campaigns, facilitating partner coordination, and contributing to donor reporting.
Work Experience
At least five years of professional experience in social and behaviour change communication, public health, or nutrition programming. Experience working with government and non-governmental organizations in Myanmar is desirable. Proven experience in developing and implementing SBC strategies and capacity building is required.
