Job Purpose

The Office of Strategy and Evidence at UNICEF Innocenti is seeking a Statistical Consultant with expertise in Portuguese language to contribute to a critical project focused on the statistical analysis of child poverty data in Portugal. This consultancy, based remotely for four months, requires a specialist to leverage advanced quantitative analysis skills to examine and interpret complex datasets. The consultant will play a key role in generating insights that will inform UNICEF's strategies and evidence-based interventions aimed at addressing child poverty. The work involves detailed data analysis, likely utilizing microdata from household surveys, to provide a comprehensive understanding of the child poverty landscape in Portugal, ultimately supporting UNICEF's mission to advocate for and realize the rights of every child, especially the most disadvantaged.

Responsibilities

The Statistical Consultant will be responsible for conducting in-depth statistical analysis of child poverty data for Portugal, utilizing microdata from relevant household surveys such as EU-SILC or similar. This includes data cleaning, processing, and applying advanced quantitative methods to identify trends, patterns, and determinants of child poverty. The consultant will be expected to develop and implement statistical models, perform rigorous analysis using R, and interpret the results to generate actionable insights. Key responsibilities include contributing to the overall project objectives by providing statistical expertise, preparing detailed reports on findings, and potentially creating visualizations to communicate complex data effectively. The consultant may also be required to collaborate with the Office of Strategy and Evidence team, participate in discussions, and provide statistical guidance. A crucial aspect of the role involves ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the analysis, adhering to best practices in statistical research, and contributing to the evidence base for child poverty reduction strategies in Portugal. The consultant must also be available for a minimum of 5 non-consecutive days to visit the office for data analysis, as specified in the terms of reference.

Work Experience

At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in quantitative analysis, with a strong preference for experience using microdata from household surveys, such as EU-SILC.
