Job Purpose
The purpose of this consultancy is to provide support for community health interventions and to prepare and respond to health emergencies. The consultant will be responsible for programmatic and financial monitoring, coordination with partners, and reporting on activities. This role is crucial for strengthening UNICEF's health response in Chad, particularly in N'Djamena, and ensuring effective emergency preparedness and management. The consultant will work under the supervision of the Health Manager, contributing to the overall health strategy and objectives of UNICEF in the region. The position involves both on-site work in N'Djamena and potential field missions, requiring adaptability and a strong understanding of local health challenges and humanitarian contexts.
Responsibilities
The consultant will provide essential support to community health interventions, focusing on areas such as maternal and newborn health, nutrition, and vaccination. A key responsibility will be the preparation and response to health emergencies, including outbreaks like cholera and measles. This involves developing contingency plans, coordinating rapid response mechanisms, and ensuring the availability of necessary resources. The consultant will also be tasked with programmatic and financial monitoring, tracking the progress of health projects against set objectives and ensuring efficient use of funds. Coordination with national health authorities, NGOs, and other partners, including clusters, will be vital for effective program implementation and information sharing. Reporting on activities, results, and challenges to the Health Manager and relevant stakeholders is also a core duty. Furthermore, the consultant will be involved in data collection and analysis using tools like DHIS2 and Kobo, and will contribute to the supervision of community health workers. Experience in fragile or humanitarian contexts and a strong understanding of local dialects will be beneficial for effective community engagement and program delivery.
Work Experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in community health and/or health emergency management. Experience in program monitoring, coordination with partners, and field work in fragile or humanitarian contexts is required. Proficiency in monitoring and evaluation tools and data analysis is also necessary.
