Job Purpose

The consultancy aims to provide expert technical support to advance the Large-Scale Food Fortification (LSFF) and Iodine Nutrition agenda within the West and Central Africa (WCAR) region. The consultant will play a crucial role in strengthening national capacities, developing and implementing strategies, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders to improve the nutritional status of populations, particularly women and children. This will involve working closely with governments, UN agencies, NGOs, and the private sector to ensure the effective and sustainable integration of food fortification and iodine deficiency prevention measures into national policies and programs. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the reduction of micronutrient deficiencies and their associated health consequences across the region.

Responsibilities

Provide technical expertise and guidance on the design, implementation, and monitoring of Large-Scale Food Fortification (LSFF) programs in selected countries within the West and Central Africa (WCAR) region. Support national governments and partners in developing and refining national strategies and action plans for food fortification and iodine nutrition. Conduct assessments of existing food fortification programs and identify gaps and opportunities for improvement. Facilitate capacity-building activities for national stakeholders, including government officials, food industry representatives, and health professionals, on LSFF and iodine nutrition. Support the development and dissemination of relevant guidelines, tools, and best practices. Contribute to the development of monitoring and evaluation frameworks for LSFF programs and provide technical input for data analysis and reporting. Foster collaboration and partnerships among key stakeholders, including government ministries, UN agencies, NGOs, academic institutions, and the private sector, to promote a coordinated approach to LSFF and iodine nutrition. Support resource mobilization efforts for LSFF and iodine nutrition initiatives. Stay abreast of the latest developments, research, and innovations in the field of food fortification and micronutrient deficiencies. Prepare regular progress reports and contribute to the development of knowledge products and advocacy materials.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of professional experience in public health nutrition, food fortification, or related public health programs, with a focus on micronutrient deficiencies. Experience working in developing countries, particularly in the West and Central Africa region, is highly desirable. Proven experience in program design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
