Job Purpose
The Driver (G-2) will provide reliable and safe driving services, ensuring compliance with local traffic rules and UNICEF protocols. This role is crucial for the smooth operation of UNICEF activities in Patna, India. The incumbent is expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discretion, integrity, adaptability, and protocol awareness. Beyond driving duties, the Driver will support administrative tasks and engage in self-directed learning during non-driving periods, demonstrating a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact, and a high sense of responsibility. The ability to work effectively with people from diverse national and cultural backgrounds is essential for fostering positive working relationships and ensuring efficient service delivery.
Responsibilities
The Driver (G-2) is responsible for providing safe and reliable driving services, adhering strictly to all local traffic laws and UNICEF's vehicle operation policies and procedures. This includes conducting daily checks on the vehicle to ensure it is in good mechanical condition, clean, and ready for use, and reporting any defects or required maintenance promptly. The Driver will maintain the vehicle’s cleanliness and ensure it is properly equipped for all assigned trips. They will also be responsible for the safe transportation of UNICEF staff, consultants, visitors, and authorized personnel to various destinations as required. Accurate record-keeping of all trips, including mileage, fuel consumption, and passenger logs, is essential. The Driver will assist with the loading and unloading of materials and equipment when necessary and ensure the security of the vehicle and its contents at all times. Additionally, the Driver will utilize digital tools and tracking systems as required for trip documentation and monitoring, and perform minor repairs if needed. During periods without driving assignments, the Driver will undertake administrative tasks and engage in self-directed learning to enhance their skills and knowledge relevant to UNICEF operations.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant professional driving experience is required. Experience in a similar role, preferably with an international organization or NGO, is desirable. Familiarity with the local traffic regulations and road network of Patna, India, is essential.
