Job Purpose
The Chief Child Protection, P-5, is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of child protection programmes and projects within the UNICEF Pacific Multi-Country Office. This role involves strategic planning, formulation, and execution to ensure tangible and sustainable contributions to national and international efforts aimed at creating a safe environment for children. The incumbent will lead the child protection section, developing action plans to achieve concrete results aligned with UNICEF's strategic plans, performance standards, and accountability framework. The position requires a strong focus on managerial leadership, programme development, monitoring, quality control, advisory services, partnership building, and fostering innovation and capacity building to protect children's rights to survival, development, and well-being as per international conventions and frameworks.
Responsibilities
The Chief Child Protection will provide managerial leadership to the child protection section, guiding strategic planning and formulation of child protection programmes and projects. This includes developing and implementing comprehensive plans of action to ensure the achievement of concrete and sustainable programme results, adhering to results-based management (RBM) approaches and UNICEF's strategic plans. The role involves overseeing programme management, monitoring, and quality control to ensure high standards of performance and accountability. The Chief will provide essential advisory services and technical support to governments and partners on child protection issues. Furthermore, the position requires active engagement in advocacy, networking, and partnership building with stakeholders to advance children's rights and well-being. A key aspect of the role is driving innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building within the child protection sector to enhance effectiveness and sustainability. The Chief will ensure that all activities contribute to creating a protective environment for children against all forms of harm and uphold their rights to survival, development, and well-being, in line with the Convention on the Rights of the Child and other international frameworks.
Work Experience
A minimum of ten years of professional experience in international child protection programmes, with at least five years in a managerial or supervisory role, is required. Experience working in developing countries or fragile states is highly desirable.
