Job Purpose
The Supply & Logistics Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the timely and efficient delivery of programmes for children and young people across the Pacific region. This role is critical in overcoming the logistical challenges posed by the vast geographic area and the unique context of small island developing states. The specialist will contribute to strengthening essential services, improving equity for the most vulnerable children, and building resilience across generations by managing the supply chain effectively. The position supports UNICEF's commitment to promoting the rights of every child and helping them fulfill their potential in a region facing significant challenges, including climate change and geographic isolation.
Responsibilities
The Supply & Logistics Specialist will manage and oversee all aspects of the supply chain for the Pacific Multi-Country Office (MCO). This includes planning, procurement, warehousing, and distribution of essential supplies and equipment to support UNICEF's programmes in health, nutrition, education, child protection, and climate resilience across 14 Pacific island countries and territories. The role involves developing and implementing effective logistics strategies to address the unique challenges of service delivery in remote island locations and fragile states. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with UNICEF's procurement policies and procedures, managing vendor relationships, and optimizing inventory levels to prevent stockouts and minimize waste. The specialist will also be responsible for coordinating with programme teams, government counterparts, and implementing partners to ensure that supplies reach beneficiaries in a timely and cost-effective manner. Furthermore, the role requires monitoring supply chain performance, identifying areas for improvement, and reporting on key logistics metrics. The specialist will contribute to building the capacity of local partners in supply chain management and ensuring the efficient use of resources to maximize impact for children.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional experience in supply chain management, logistics, procurement, or a related area, preferably in an international development or humanitarian context. Experience working in challenging or remote environments is an asset.
