Job Purpose
The purpose of this consultancy is to provide expertise in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) to support UNICEF's programs in Burundi. The consultant will focus on governance, capacity building, planning, innovation, knowledge management, financing, private sector engagement, program management, monitoring, evaluation, coordination, and reporting within the WASH sector. This role is crucial for strengthening institutional capacities, developing effective sector strategies, and ensuring sustainable WASH interventions that benefit children and communities. The consultant will contribute to the overall goal of improving access to safe water, adequate sanitation, and hygiene practices across the country, aligning with national priorities and UNICEF's mandate.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for providing technical support and expertise in WASH governance and institutional capacity building. This includes developing and implementing strategies for sector planning, fostering innovation, and managing knowledge within the WASH sector. The role involves contributing to financing mechanisms and engaging the private sector to enhance WASH service delivery. The consultant will also be involved in program management, monitoring, and evaluation to ensure effective implementation and achievement of results. Furthermore, they will facilitate sector and inter-sectoral coordination, promote knowledge capitalization, and contribute to communication and reporting efforts. Specific tasks may include developing policy documents, conducting assessments, organizing training workshops, and providing guidance to government counterparts and partners. The consultant will also ensure that WASH interventions are aligned with national policies and UNICEF's strategic objectives, with a focus on reaching the most vulnerable populations.
Work Experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in project management related to water, hygiene, and sanitation (WASH), including policy and strategy development. Experience in coordination and collaboration within the WASH and environment sectors, with government, private sector, and local communities, is required. Expertise in program coordination and management, capacity building, and policy/strategy document development is essential.
