Job Purpose
Under the supervision of the Deputy Representative Programmes, the Resilience Coordinator will play a central role in designing and implementing community resilience programmes, leading capacity-building initiatives, and conducting risk and vulnerability assessments. The role involves providing technical expertise on capacity-building and training, identification of drivers of vulnerability, mitigation strategies for disasters and shocks affecting children and women, and the development and testing of methods to strengthen community resilience. The Coordinator will also represent UNICEF in technical, managerial, and strategic planning meetings with UN sister agencies, donors, government officials, and other key stakeholders at both central and decentralized levels, ensuring effective coordination and alignment of resilience efforts.
Responsibilities
The Emergency Specialist (Resilience Coordinator) will undertake several key activities including providing technical assistance in the design and implementation of resilience programs, focusing on disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation. They will lead capacity-building initiatives for communities and local partners, enhancing their ability to prepare for and respond to shocks and stresses. The role requires conducting thorough risk and vulnerability assessments to inform program strategies and interventions. Furthermore, the Coordinator will be responsible for developing and testing innovative methods to strengthen community resilience, ensuring that interventions are context-specific and sustainable. They will also play a crucial role in monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on the progress and impact of resilience programs. Partnership and communication are vital, involving representation of UNICEF in strategic planning meetings with UN agencies, donors, government officials, and other stakeholders to foster collaboration and resource mobilization.
Work Experience
At least 5 years of progressive professional experience in resilience, disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness and response, peacebuilding, and/or post-disaster recovery. Demonstrated field experience in complex, high-risk and/or conflict-affected environments.
