Job Purpose

The UNICEF Mauritania office seeks an international consultant to design and develop adapted legal outreach tools for young children and children in detention or conflict with the law. This consultancy specifically focuses on adapting and creating educational booklets inspired by the 'Lis la loi' booklet. The goal is to reimagine the language, pedagogical approach, format, and content to meet the specific needs of these target audiences. The consultant will be responsible for the conceptualization and development of these materials, ensuring they are engaging, accessible, and effective in conveying legal information to children. This role is crucial for enhancing legal awareness and protection mechanisms for vulnerable children within Mauritania.

Responsibilities

The consultant will be responsible for designing and developing adapted legal outreach tools for children, specifically focusing on young children and those in detention or conflict with the law. This includes adapting and creating educational booklets based on the 'Lis la loi' concept, ensuring the language, pedagogical approach, format, and content are suitable for the target audiences. The consultant will conduct research to understand the specific needs and contexts of these children and will develop innovative and interactive educational materials. This may involve creating illustrated booklets, educational games, or other engaging formats. The consultant will also ensure the materials align with UNICEF's child protection principles and Mauritanian legal frameworks. Collaboration with local stakeholders may be required to ensure cultural relevance and effectiveness. The final deliverables will include the developed tools and potentially a report on the adaptation process and recommendations for future use. The consultant will work remotely with a mission component as specified.

Work Experience

Proven experience in legal outreach or producing educational content for children/adolescents. Experience in developing playful and interactive tools. Experience working with children and adolescents, including those in vulnerable situations. Previous experience with UNICEF or other international organizations is an advantage. Experience producing booklets in Mauritania is desirable.
