Job Purpose
The Child Protection Specialist (Gender-based violence) will support the development and implementation of UNICEF's strategies to address gender-based violence (GBV) in Afghanistan. This role is crucial given the complex humanitarian context where women and girls face heightened risks. The specialist will contribute to situation analyses, programme design, and strategic planning, ensuring alignment with UNICEF's global and country-specific objectives. The position aims to enhance programme management, efficiency, and delivery by integrating gender analysis and promoting gender-responsive approaches across all UNICEF sectors. The goal is to achieve concrete and sustainable results in protecting children's rights and supporting vulnerable populations, particularly in challenging operational environments.
Responsibilities
Support the preparation, design, and updating of situation analyses for GBV programmes and projects to ensure comprehensive data guides UNICEF’s strategic policy advocacy, intervention, and development efforts on child rights and protection. Set programme priorities, strategies, and implementation plans, staying abreast of development trends to enhance programme management, efficiency, and delivery. Participate in strategic programme discussions for GBV and gender programmes. Formulate, design, and prepare programme/project proposals for the sector, ensuring alignment with UNICEF’s overall Strategic Plans, the Country Programme, and coherence with the UN Strategic Framework for Afghanistan (UNSFA), regional strategies, and national priorities. Work collaboratively with colleagues and partners to discuss strategies, methodologies, and determine national priorities to ensure the achievement of concrete and sustainable results. Support the integration of gender analysis and gender-responsive/transformative approaches into programme design and planning across UNICEF sectors. Contribute to the development of programme documents, work plans, and proposals.
Work Experience
At least two years of professional experience in child protection, gender-based violence programming, or a related field, preferably in a humanitarian or development context. Experience in programme planning, design, and implementation is essential.
