Job Purpose
This role supports the Joint Resilience Programme (JRP) in Somalia, funded by Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by WFP and UNICEF. The JRP aims to reduce the humanitarian caseload by insulating households from the immediate impact of frequent climate shocks like flooding and drought. The programme integrates Nutrition, Health, Education, WASH, and Livelihoods to provide sustainable food security and resilient livelihoods, enabling households to produce, access, and afford nutritious food, sell surplus, and add value to boost income. This ultimately improves access to essential services and helps break the cycle of poverty, hunger, and malnutrition.
Responsibilities
The Programme Officer will be responsible for the field-level management and coordination of JRP activities across four districts in Somalia: Dusamareed, Galkayo South, Galkayo North, and Galdogob. This includes serving as the primary interface with communities, local partners, and authorities to ensure effective programme implementation. Key responsibilities involve overseeing integrated Nutrition, Health, Education, WASH, and Livelihoods interventions, ensuring they contribute to sustainable food security and resilient livelihoods. The role requires close coordination with WFP and FAO, as well as with the Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development and other line ministries at federal and state levels. The officer will monitor programme progress, identify challenges, and implement timely solutions to achieve the JRP's objective of reducing humanitarian caseload and empowering vulnerable populations to break the cycle of poverty and malnutrition.
