Organizational Context
UNICEF Afghanistan Country Office is seeking a Communication Specialist to support the Communication and Advocacy section. This role will focus on public advocacy, donor visibility, digital content production, social media management, media engagement, and communicating program results amidst ongoing humanitarian and development challenges.
Job Purpose
The Communication Specialist will provide comprehensive communication support to the UNICEF Afghanistan Country Office. A key focus will be on enhancing donor visibility and ensuring effective communication of UNICEF's supported programs and their impact. This includes developing high-quality digital and multimedia content, managing social media platforms to disseminate information and engage audiences, and conducting public advocacy efforts. The role is crucial in articulating the organization's mission and achievements to various stakeholders, including the public, donors, and partners, thereby contributing to the overall advocacy and communication strategy for children's rights and well-being in Afghanistan.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement communication strategies and plans to enhance UNICEF's visibility and advocacy efforts in Afghanistan, with a specific focus on donor recognition and engagement. Produce compelling digital and multimedia content, including articles, photos, videos, and infographics, that effectively communicate the impact of UNICEF's programs on children and families. Manage and grow UNICEF Afghanistan's social media presence across various platforms, creating engaging content, monitoring conversations, and responding to inquiries to foster community interaction and disseminate key messages. Cultivate and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to secure positive media coverage and amplify UNICEF's voice on critical child-related issues. Support the development of advocacy materials and campaigns aimed at promoting children's rights and influencing policy decisions. Provide communication support for emergency responses and humanitarian appeals, ensuring timely and accurate information dissemination. Monitor and analyze communication trends and media coverage to inform strategy adjustments and measure impact. Ensure all communication materials adhere to UNICEF's brand guidelines and communication policies. Collaborate with program sections to gather information and stories that highlight program achievements and challenges. Support the organization of communication events, press conferences, and donor briefings.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional experience in communication, journalism, public relations, or a related field. Experience in developing and implementing communication strategies, producing multimedia content, and managing social media is required. Experience working in a developing country context or in humanitarian settings is an asset.
