Job Purpose
The Communications and Advocacy Intern will provide crucial support to UNICEF's communication efforts in Freetown, Sierra Leone, for a period of six months. This role is designed to enhance the efficiency and timeliness of communication outputs by assisting with coordination, documentation, digital communication processes, multimedia organization, event support, and communication tracking systems. Working under the direct supervision of the Communication Officer (Advocacy) and the overall guidance of the Chief of Communications, Advocacy and Partnerships, the intern will play a key role in media monitoring, digital communication, multimedia content organization, and event documentation. The position offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in a dynamic international organization focused on child rights.
Responsibilities
The intern will support the coordination, documentation, digital communication processes, multimedia organization, event support, and communication tracking systems to improve efficiency and timely delivery of communication outputs. Key responsibilities include assisting with media monitoring and digital communication, ensuring organized and accessible communication and multimedia files, and contributing to the timely compilation of media monitoring reports and communication summaries. The intern will also support the documentation of communication events and advocacy activities, and help maintain updated media and communication contact databases. Additionally, the role involves supporting the timely preparation of communication and visibility materials. The intern is expected to contribute to enhancing the overall communication strategy and execution, ensuring that UNICEF's message and impact are effectively conveyed to target audiences. This includes assisting in the management of social media channels and analyzing relevant data to inform communication strategies.
Work Experience
Strong writing, editing, and research skills. Basic understanding of child rights and experience working with children. Familiarity with communications, project management, and branding. Basic multimedia skills (photography, videography, content creation). Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and social media management tools. Ability to manage social media channels and analyze data.
