Job Purpose
The Immunization Specialist (P-3) in Honiara, Solomon Islands, is crucial for enhancing child health outcomes in the Pacific region. This role provides strategic leadership, technical expertise, and coordination to bolster national immunization programs. The specialist will contribute to evidence-based planning, develop and implement immunization strategies in collaboration with partners, and ensure alignment with national health priorities and global targets. By monitoring and evaluating program progress, the specialist will identify and address gaps to improve coverage, equity, quality, and sustainability. This position is vital for strengthening immunization planning, service delivery, vaccine management, disease surveillance, and overall program performance at all levels, ultimately contributing to UNICEF's mission for every child's right to health.
Responsibilities
The Immunization Specialist will conduct timely immunization sectoral analyses, including coverage, equity, zero-dose populations, vaccine-preventable disease trends, and sex-disaggregated data, to inform Situation Analysis and evidence-based planning, development, and management of the immunization program. They will contribute to the development and implementation of immunization strategies and approaches through collaboration with internal and external partners. The specialist will establish strategic work plans and objectives, provide effective technical support, and ensure timely delivery of planned results by providing strong technical leadership to the national immunization program, aligning with national health sector priorities and global immunization targets. Progress in immunization program implementation will be monitored and evaluated to improve coverage, equity, quality, and sustainability, supporting timely corrective actions where gaps are identified. Technical support will be provided to government and NGOs to strengthen immunization planning, service delivery, vaccine management, disease surveillance, and program performance at national and subnational levels. Additionally, the capacities of Country Office staff will be strengthened through effective capacity-building programs in the development, implementation, and management of the Immunization Programme.
Work Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience at the national and international levels in the planning, programming, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of health and immunization programmes. Relevant professional experience in health, health and nutrition, immunization, public health, maternal and child health, epidemiology, health systems management, programme management, monitoring and evaluation is required.
