Job Purpose
The purpose of this LTA Consultancy is to support UNICEF's Office of Strategy and Evidence – Innocenti in generating high-quality evidence to understand the complex challenges and opportunities facing children globally. The consultant will contribute to guiding UNICEF in delivering impactful results for children by undertaking comparative international research on child rights and well-being. This involves collating and evaluating research evidence, performing complex statistical analysis, and preparing various technical documents and publications. The ultimate goal is to ensure that stronger evidence informs better decisions, leading to improved lives for children worldwide, particularly in the context of rising conflicts, digital disruption, economic crises, and climate shocks. The consultant will also provide expert advice to UNICEF offices on research utilization.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for collating and evaluating diverse research evidence to inform UNICEF's strategic initiatives. A key duty involves undertaking complex statistical analysis, interpreting findings, and translating them into actionable insights. The role requires preparing a range of written outputs, including briefing notes, technical documents, and working papers, while also contributing analytical and writing expertise to official office publications. Furthermore, the consultant will be tasked with effectively presenting research results to both technical and non-technical audiences, ensuring clear communication of complex data. Providing expert advice and analysis to various UNICEF offices on the application of research and evidence from comparative international studies conducted at Innocenti is also crucial. Deliverables under this consultancy may include providing training and support to UNICEF staff and researchers, conducting research on secondary data and feasibility studies, producing comprehensive statistical analyses, research reports, and various other research outputs, alongside developing and delivering presentations for dissemination.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant experience in social and economic research is required, ideally encompassing quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods studies. Candidates must also possess experience in international comparative research focused on child rights and well-being, along with a proven track record of publications communicating research results to policy and general audiences.
