Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this consultancy is to meticulously review and analyze existing study data to identify and document best practices that effectively support exclusive breastfeeding among preterm neonates, specifically those born at less than 32 weeks of gestation. This critical task involves a thorough assessment of breastfeeding outcomes observed at the time of initial hospital discharge from selected Neonatal Units across Sri Lanka. The consultant will synthesize these findings into a comprehensive report, which will serve as a vital resource for understanding and promoting optimal breastfeeding practices for this vulnerable population. The insights gained will be instrumental in informing future programmatic interventions, policy development, and capacity building initiatives within the maternal and newborn healthcare system in Sri Lanka, ultimately aiming to improve the health and developmental outcomes for preterm infants.
Responsibilities
The consultant's responsibilities encompass a thorough review and analysis of existing study data pertaining to breastfeeding practices for preterm neonates. A primary task involves identifying and meticulously documenting best practices that effectively support exclusive breastfeeding among infants born at less than 32 weeks of gestation. This includes a critical assessment of breastfeeding outcomes observed at the time of initial hospital discharge from various selected Neonatal Units across Sri Lanka. The consultant is also responsible for preparing a detailed and comprehensive report that clearly articulates all findings, analyses, and documented best practices. This report should provide actionable insights and recommendations for strengthening the Maternal, Newborn healthcare system, particularly concerning the Breastfeeding Programme and advanced newborn care. Furthermore, the consultant will be expected to engage effectively with relevant stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health, to ensure the relevance, applicability, and potential for implementation of the documented practices and findings. The role demands strong analytical capabilities to interpret complex health data, excellent writing skills to present information clearly and concisely, and facilitation skills for stakeholder engagement.
Work Experience
At least 5 years of work experience, with a strong understanding of the Maternal, Newborn healthcare system in Sri Lanka, including the Breastfeeding Programme and advanced newborn care. Must have at least 5 years of experience in these specific fields.
