Job Purpose

The purpose of this consultancy is to support UNICEF’s regional data tech portfolio in advancing the priorities of the Frontier Data Network (FDN) work plan for the Latin America and Caribbean Regional Office (LACRO). This involves strengthening data expertise rooted in local realities, expanding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and geospatial intelligence, and fostering collaborative innovation ecosystems with governments, academia, civil society, and technology partners. The role is central to advancing UNICEF’s AI Strategy, leveraging AI responsibly for program impact, operational efficiency, and child rights advocacy. The incumbent will coordinate the design, planning, implementation support, documentation, and delivery tracking of selected AI and frontier data tech use cases, working with various UNICEF teams and external partners.

Responsibilities

The Project Manager, AI and Frontier Data Tech Initiatives will support UNICEF’s regional data portfolio, focusing on coordinating and advancing the priorities of the Frontier Data Network (FDN). This includes strengthening data expertise, expanding AI and geospatial intelligence use, and fostering innovation ecosystems. The role will support the establishment of a Regional Network for Frontier Data Collaboration, the development of the LAC Data for Children Portal, and contribute to other AI-driven data products in collaboration with the Digital Impact Division (DID). The consultant will provide technical project management support across key FDN LAC workstreams: 'Ahead of the Storm' (geospatial intelligence, disaster risk readiness, emergency analytics), 'Children on the Move' (migration data innovation, partner coordination), and 'AI Across the Data Lifecycle and Child center AI' (responsible AI use, child-centered AI). This involves coordinating multi-stakeholder projects, developing and promoting frontier data tech priorities, and ensuring alignment with UNICEF’s global vision and effective implementation across the LAC region.

Work Experience

At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in project management, data/technology delivery, digital transformation, innovation, or AI/data initiatives.
