Job Purpose
The Security Assistant provides essential technical, operational, and administrative support to the Country Field Security Advisor (CFSA) and the broader Security Section. This critical role is instrumental in upholding UNICEF's commitment to the safety and well-being of its personnel and their eligible family members across Kenya. By safeguarding UNICEF assets and premises, the assistant directly contributes to maintaining the operational capacity required for programme delivery. Furthermore, the position is vital for supporting secure programme implementation, ensuring that UNICEF can effectively reach and assist children and communities in various contexts. A key aspect of the role involves ensuring strict compliance with all UN security policies, procedures, and standards, thereby mitigating risks and fostering a secure environment that enables UNICEF to fulfill its mandate of defending children's rights and helping them achieve their full potential, from early childhood through adolescence.
Responsibilities
The Security Assistant plays a crucial role in security planning by actively assisting in the formulation, review, and implementation of robust security strategies, risk assessments, and comprehensive contingency plans tailored to the specific operational environment in Kenya. This ensures the proactive protection of UNICEF personnel, their eligible family members, valuable assets, and critical programme operations. The role encompasses delivering essential safety and security services, which includes continuous monitoring of the security landscape, managing effective access control systems for UNICEF premises, and providing immediate, coordinated responses to security incidents or emergencies. Furthermore, the assistant is vital for fostering strong security coordination and networking, engaging with various internal departments, other UN agencies, local government authorities, and relevant external partners. This collaboration facilitates information sharing, harmonizes security protocols, and strengthens collective security measures across the region. Finally, the position supports knowledge management and capacity building efforts by contributing to the design and delivery of security awareness training programs, ensuring timely dissemination of security advisories, and meticulously maintaining up-to-date security information and records to enhance the overall security resilience and preparedness of the Country Office and its field operations.
Work Experience
At least 5 years of relevant work experience in security, security management, risk management, emergency response, physical security, incident management, field operations, stakeholder coordination, safety compliance, training and capacity building, or travel security is required.
