Organizational Context
UNICEF operates in over 190 countries, dedicated to saving children's lives, defending their rights, and helping them fulfill their potential. We are committed to promoting the rights of every child, offering diverse opportunities for professional and personal development in a passionate and inclusive culture.
Job Purpose
UNICEF's Global Programme Division, Education Practice, aims to create more equitable, inclusive, and gender-responsive education systems. The Equity, Disability, Gender, and Inclusion team leads this effort through global technical guidance, evidence generation, and country support, focusing on disability-inclusive education, gender-transformative education, and addressing out-of-school children. Despite progress, many systems lack practical guidance for implementing inclusion. This consultancy seeks to bridge that gap by developing practical knowledge products, public goods, and learning platforms to support country offices, ministries of education, and partners in strengthening inclusive and equitable education systems worldwide.
Responsibilities
The consultant will provide technical and coordination support to advance key priorities within the global Equity, Disability, Gender, and Inclusion agenda in education. A primary responsibility will be developing a Disability-Inclusive Education Hub, a global platform consolidating evidence, tools, guidance, and country experiences on disability-inclusive education system reform. This hub will translate global frameworks into practical resources for policy, financing, teacher development, data, and learning environments. Additionally, the consultant will focus on disability-inclusive early childhood education, synthesizing evidence and developing global guidance, tools, validation processes, and case studies for ECE workforce development. The role also involves supporting learning and public goods activities for gender-transformative education planning and out-of-school children, including webinars and learning sessions. The consultant will work under the supervision of the Education Specialist (Disability Inclusion) and collaborate closely with UNICEF staff.
Work Experience
At least 8 years of progressively responsible professional experience in international disability-inclusive education, from early childhood education onwards. Experience with early identification and intervention approaches for disability inclusion in ECE and expertise in ECE workforce development are highly desirable.
