Visual UX Designer and Maker Consultant, OOI Systems & Services Design function, 12 months, UNICEF Stockholm (Remote/Work from home)

Job Purpose

The purpose of this consultancy is to provide specialized visual systems, UX, and experimental prototyping support to the Office of Innovation (OOI). The consultant will help translate complex initiatives into reusable design assets, testable concepts, and decision-making tools. This role is critical in strengthening the OOI's design function by creating visual systems, rapid prototypes, AI-enabled design experiments, and modular tools. These outputs will assist internal teams, country offices, and partners in understanding, testing, adapting, and scaling innovation work across UNICEF. The consultant will contribute to both internal decision-making and external engagement through strategic storytelling, hands-on design execution, and iterative prototyping.

Responsibilities

The consultant will support the OOI design function in delivering end-to-end visual design and prototyping outputs for key initiatives, including SPRINTLab, COMPASS, SPARK, Insights, and Influence. Core responsibilities include developing visual systems and narrative infrastructure by translating complex concepts, research insights, and innovation strategies into clear, engaging narratives (presentations, reports, infographics, toolkits), and creating reusable storytelling templates and visual systems. The consultant will also design future scenarios, speculative concepts, and journey maps to explore emerging opportunities. In UI/UX and rapid prototyping, they will design and iterate on prototypes for digital products, services, and tools (wireframes, mock-ups, clickable demos) and support teams in testing and refining concepts. For experience and spatial design, the consultant will develop visual assets for exhibitions, events, workshops, and innovation spaces, and design cross-format experiences. They will also be responsible for data visualization and sense-making, translating research findings and complex datasets into accessible visual formats and designing modular visual systems. The consultant will collaborate closely with the OOI design team and cross-functional teams, participate in design processes, translate abstract content into visual outputs, ensure brand consistency, and manage multiple assignments.

Work Experience

Minimum of 12+ years of relevant experience, including supporting innovation teams from problem framing to prototyping. Experience with Vibe coding (lovable or claude design) and a deep understanding of interaction design are required. UN experience is an asset.
