Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to document and systematize practices of meaningful participation of unaccompanied and separated children (UASC) and young migrants and refugees in Italy. The consultant will translate these documented practices into a structured training package designed for professionals working within the reception system. The ultimate goal is to enhance the meaningful participation of these vulnerable youth, ensuring their voices are heard and considered in decisions affecting them. This initiative is crucial for upholding the rights and well-being of UASC and young migrants and refugees within the Italian context, contributing to more rights-based and effective child protection systems.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for conducting thorough research and documentation of existing practices related to the meaningful participation of unaccompanied and separated children (UASC) and young migrants and refugees in Italy. This includes identifying innovative approaches and successful methodologies employed by various stakeholders. A key responsibility will be to analyze this information and synthesize it into a comprehensive and structured training package. This package should be practical, accessible, and tailored for professionals working in child protection and reception systems. The consultant will also be expected to facilitate training sessions or provide guidance on how the training package can be effectively rolled out. This may involve developing training materials, presentations, and potentially pilot testing the training. The consultant will need to collaborate with relevant UNICEF sections, partners, and stakeholders in Italy to ensure the relevance and effectiveness of the documentation and training. Ensuring the participation of UASC and young migrants and refugees in the development process of the training package will be a critical responsibility, adhering to child participation principles.
Work Experience
At least 5–7 years of experience in child protection, migration, or participation. Proven experience working with unaccompanied and separated children (UASC) or refugee & migrant youth. Experience in documentation and/or training development is required.
Skills
Research and documentation expertise, Knowledge of CRC and child participation frameworks, Experience with participatory methodologies, Strong facilitation and training skills, Ability to work with vulnerable populations, Knowledge of Italian reception system, Proficiency in digital communication and presentation tools, Experience with UNICEF or UN system
