Job Purpose
The Child Protection Officer will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of child protection programmes in Ukraine, with a specific focus on the Kharkiv region. This role involves contributing to the design, planning, and execution of activities aimed at safeguarding children from violence, exploitation, abuse, and neglect. The officer will work closely with government counterparts, civil society organizations, and other UN agencies to strengthen child protection systems and ensure that children's rights are protected, especially in the context of the ongoing emergency. The position requires a proactive approach to identifying protection risks and developing appropriate interventions to mitigate them, ensuring that UNICEF's child protection mandate is effectively implemented on the ground.
Responsibilities
The Child Protection Officer will be responsible for supporting the implementation of child protection strategies and interventions in the assigned area. This includes contributing to the design, planning, and monitoring of child protection activities, such as case management, psychosocial support, and prevention of family separation. The officer will work to strengthen the capacity of local partners and government authorities to deliver child protection services. This involves conducting training, providing technical assistance, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders. The role also entails monitoring the protection environment, identifying emerging risks and needs, and reporting on protection issues. The officer will contribute to advocacy efforts to promote child rights and protection, and will participate in inter-agency coordination mechanisms to ensure a coherent and effective response to child protection challenges. Additionally, the position requires maintaining accurate records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with UNICEF policies and procedures.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional experience in child protection, social work, or a related field, preferably in an emergency or humanitarian context. Experience working with children and vulnerable populations is essential.
