Job Purpose
The Global Disability Team at UNICEF is focused on developing flagship initiatives and providing technical support to accelerate disability inclusion at the country level, aligning with the Strategic Plan 2026-2029. This involves launching global initiatives like the Global Programme on Children with Disabilities and a continental initiative on Inclusive Vision and Hearing in Africa. The role also includes mainstreaming disability inclusion into major UNICEF programs, such as the Building Resilience in the Sahel program. The objective is to mobilize intense technical capacity to support Country Offices, develop partnerships, and enhance capacity building and knowledge management for these critical disability inclusion efforts.
Responsibilities
Provide technical support for the development, launch, and strategic integration of global and continental disability inclusion initiatives within UNICEF's country-level work. Ensure technical relevance and alignment with the Strategic Plan 2026-2029, the Disability Inclusion Policy and Strategy (DIPAS), and UNICEF's commitments. Develop resources and deliver technical assistance, with particular attention to French-speaking Country Offices and partners. Support the design and formalization of large-scale disability-inclusive programs, including drafting Theories of Change, results frameworks, and investment cases. Provide capacity building and technical support on disability rights and policies, advising on public policy development, systems strengthening, and financing for disability inclusion. Engage with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) at various levels. Facilitate capacity building and knowledge management among participating Country Offices. Design and lead technical webinars and workshops for diverse audiences, utilizing inclusive facilitation and participatory approaches. Coordinate multi-sectoral work on disability inclusion using a rights-based approach, promoting scale and integration.
Work Experience
At least 12 years of professional experience in disability inclusion, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, with a focus on West and Central Africa. Proven experience in designing large-scale programs, developing Theories of Change, results frameworks, and proposals. Demonstrated experience in capacity building, technical support on disability rights and policies, and engagement with OPDs.
