Job Purpose

The Emergency Specialist establishes and implements Country Office emergency preparedness and response at the sub-national level. This role is responsible for the development, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of emergency interventions to ensure the survival and well-being of children, mothers, and affected communities during emergencies. The position supports emergency preparedness through contingency planning, early warning mechanisms, coordination, information management, and capacity building. It also contributes to rapid emergency response by supporting assessments, operational readiness, coordination with partners, staff safety measures, and analysis of humanitarian needs to inform timely and effective interventions for affected populations.

Responsibilities

The Emergency Specialist supports emergency preparedness through contingency planning, early warning mechanisms, coordination, information management, capacity building, and technical guidance to strengthen field-level readiness and response capacities. They contribute to rapid emergency response by supporting assessments, operational readiness, coordination with partners, staff safety measures, and analysis of humanitarian needs to inform timely and effective interventions for affected populations. The role also supports the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of emergency projects; coordinates with government and humanitarian partners; contributes to resource mobilization and reporting; and promotes the integration of recovery, resilience, and disaster risk reduction into programme planning and implementation. This includes ensuring the survival and well-being of children and mothers, and the affected communities in an emergency situation.

Work Experience

At least 5 years of relevant work experience in Programme Management, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Administration, Programme Development, Project Development, or Implementation.

Skills
