Job Purpose
The Deputy Representative reports to the CO Representative for general supervision and direction. The Deputy Representative supports the Representative on the overall management of the CO and for coordinating closely with the different programme sections including social policy and social protection on all phases of the Country Office Programme, from formulation to delivery of results in accordance with UNICEF’s Strategic Plans, standards of performance and accountability framework, ethics and integrity. The Deputy Representative supports the Representative in leading and leveraging partnerships with both public and private sectors for the achievement of results and fulfilment of the rights of children.
Responsibilities
Support further strengthening of social policy and particularly social protection. Support to the Representative on management of the Country Office Programme, from formulation to delivery of results in accordance with UNICEF’s Strategic Plans, standards of performance and accountability framework, ethics and integrity. Support the Representative in leading and leveraging partnerships with both public and private sectors for the achievement of results and fulfilment of the rights of children. Equatorial Guinea is classified as an upper-middle-income country; however, its human development outcomes remain below those of many countries with comparable income levels. The National Sustainable Development Strategy, Agenda Guinea Ecuatorial 2035, is aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the African Union Agenda 2063, with a focus on poverty reduction, social inclusion, environmental sustainability and economic diversification. Equatorial Guinea has a very young population, highlighting the importance of strengthening child-sensitive social protection policies and programmes. The development of evidence-based policies continues to be constrained by weaknesses in data and information management systems, although the Government is undertaking efforts to improve the availability, quality and timeliness of social and development statistics.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of professional experience in programme management, social policy, social protection, or a related field is required. Experience working in developing countries is an asset.
