Job Purpose
The Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) Officer will contribute to the analysis and addressing of cognitive, social, and structural determinants of individual practices and societal changes within both development and humanitarian contexts. This role leverages social and behavioral sciences to understand people's beliefs, values, socio-cultural norms, and economic/institutional contexts to engage them and increase their influence in designing solutions for change. The SBC Officer will integrate evidence generation with community-led and human-centered processes, supporting UNICEF's mandate across various sectors by influencing behaviors related to immunization, feeding practices, learning, hygiene, and positive discipline, as well as driving societal transformations towards greater inclusivity, equity, and peace.
Responsibilities
The Social and Behaviour Change Officer will support the Lebanon country programme's objectives by addressing behavioural and social drivers that influence programme outcomes across key sectors including Health, Nutrition, Education, Child Protection, WASH, Social Policy, and Youth. This involves contributing to increasing access to and demand for essential services, reducing inequities, strengthening national systems, and enhancing community engagement, accountability, and emergency preparedness. The role will involve generating evidence on social and behavioural factors, facilitating community engagement, and integrating behaviourally informed approaches into humanitarian and development programming. Specific responsibilities include designing, implementing, and monitoring SBC strategies, developing communication materials, building capacity of partners, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure SBC is effectively integrated across all programme areas to improve service uptake and the quality of results for children and adolescents in Lebanon.
Work Experience
At least two years of professional experience in social and behavior change, public health, or related fields, with experience in complex humanitarian and development contexts preferred.
