Job Purpose
The WASH Officer provides essential technical, operational, and administrative support for the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programming process within the UNICEF Pacific Multi-Country Office. This role is crucial for the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of WASH output results for the country programme. The officer will contribute to programme planning, management, and delivery, ensuring effective execution of WASH initiatives. A key aspect of the role involves providing technical and operational assistance for programme implementation, with a specific focus on humanitarian WASH preparedness and response. The position also entails networking and partnership building to strengthen WASH efforts, alongside fostering innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building within the sector. The ultimate goal is to contribute to improving children's health and well-being through enhanced WASH services in the Pacific region.
Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the WASH Specialist, the WASH Officer will be responsible for supporting the entire WASH programming cycle. This includes contributing to programme development and planning by assisting in the formulation of strategies and work plans. The officer will manage and monitor programme activities, ensuring timely delivery of results and adherence to UNICEF standards. Providing technical and operational support for the implementation of WASH projects is a core function, which may involve field visits, assessments, and direct assistance to implementing partners. A significant part of the role will focus on humanitarian WASH preparedness and response, ensuring that UNICEF is ready to act in emergencies and can effectively support affected communities. The officer will also be involved in networking and partnership building with government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to enhance collaboration and leverage resources for WASH interventions. Furthermore, the position requires a commitment to innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building, sharing best practices and supporting the development of local capacities in WASH. This includes documenting lessons learned and contributing to the overall knowledge base of the WASH sector within UNICEF and its partners.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant work experience in WASH programmes within developing countries or related fields.
