Job Purpose
The Nutrition Specialist, based in Ambovombe, Madagascar, will manage the nutrition programme in the assigned area and coordinate interventions across the Grand Sud regions (Androy, Anosy, and Atsimo-Andrefana). This role provides technical leadership and oversight to sub-national stakeholders and partners. The incumbent supports the development, management, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of a sector of the country's nutrition programme. The primary goal is to provide technical guidance and management support throughout the programming processes to achieve concrete and sustainable results in maternal, infant, and child nutrition programmes, aligning with UNICEF's Strategic Plans and results-based management approaches.
Responsibilities
The Nutrition Specialist will support programme development and planning, ensuring alignment with country and global nutrition strategies. They will manage and monitor the nutrition programme, delivering tangible results in maternal, infant, and child nutrition. This includes providing essential technical and operational support for programme implementation, ensuring adherence to UNICEF standards and best practices. A key responsibility is networking and building strong partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to enhance nutrition interventions. The role also involves driving innovation, managing knowledge, and building the capacity of partners and staff in nutrition-related areas. Furthermore, the incumbent will be responsible for nutrition coordination across the Grand Sud regions, facilitating collaboration and synergy among various actors. This includes managing emergency nutrition responses, multisectoral coordination, and ensuring effective donor reporting to secure resources and maintain programme continuity.
Work Experience
At least 5 years of relevant work experience in Nutrition, Health and Nutrition, Public Health, Nutritional Epidemiology, Global/International Health and Nutrition, Health Research, Nutrition Research, Policy and Management, Health Sciences, or related fields. Experience in development, fragile settings, and humanitarian contexts is desirable.
