Job Purpose
The Operations Officer will support the UNICEF Pacific Multi-Country Office in delivering its mandate across 14 Pacific island countries. This role is crucial for ensuring the effective and efficient implementation of UNICEF's programmes, which aim to advance children's rights and wellbeing. The officer will contribute to strengthening essential services, improving equity for vulnerable children, and building resilience across generations. By managing operational aspects, the role directly impacts the ability of UNICEF to address pressing challenges such as climate change, geographic isolation, and service delivery constraints, ultimately shaping healthier, safer, and more inclusive futures for children in the region.
Responsibilities
The Operations Officer will be responsible for managing and overseeing various operational functions to support UNICEF's programmes in the Pacific. This includes ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of services, managing resources, and maintaining compliance with organizational policies and procedures. The role involves coordinating logistical support for programme activities, including travel, procurement, and asset management, ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement of goods and services. The officer will also be responsible for financial oversight, including budget monitoring, financial reporting, and ensuring accountability for all financial transactions. Additionally, the position requires contributing to the development and implementation of operational strategies, identifying areas for improvement, and promoting best practices in operations management. The officer will work closely with programme staff, government counterparts, and other stakeholders to facilitate programme implementation and achieve results for children. This includes managing administrative processes, supporting human resources functions, and ensuring the smooth functioning of the office in Honiara and supporting field operations across the 14 Pacific island countries.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in operations, administration, or programme support is required. Experience in a developing country context or within the UN system is an asset.
