Job Purpose
The purpose of this consultancy is to support the transition towards government-led Child Protection Area of Responsibility coordination by strengthening the capacity of the Ministry of Social Welfare to lead coordination mechanisms and technical working groups. The consultant will also support the prevention of child recruitment and use by armed groups, including other grave violations against children and women. Additionally, the role involves providing technical leadership in facilitating the social and economic reintegration of children and women exiting armed groups and contributing to peacebuilding efforts in north-east Nigeria. The assignment will be guided by the Core Commitments for Children in Humanitarian Action (CCCs), ensuring timely, equitable, and child-centred reintegration programming, while strengthening national systems for sustainable protection services beyond the humanitarian response.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for strengthening the capacity of the Ministry of Social Welfare to lead coordination mechanisms and technical working groups within the Child Protection Area of Responsibility. This includes developing and implementing strategies to prevent the recruitment and use of children by armed groups and addressing other grave violations against children and women. The consultant will provide technical leadership in facilitating the social and economic reintegration of children and women exiting armed groups, ensuring that reintegration approaches are survivor-centred, gender-responsive, and inclusive. Emphasis will be placed on addressing the differentiated needs of girls, boys, and children with disabilities. Furthermore, the consultant will reinforce community-based protection mechanisms as a foundation for long-term reintegration outcomes and ensure that programming aligns with the Core Commitments for Children in Humanitarian Action (CCCs), focusing on the best interests of the child and strengthening national systems for sustainable protection services.
Work Experience
Minimum 7-10 years of relevant professional experience in child protection programming and coordination, with demonstrated experience in the reintegration of children.
