Job Purpose
The objective of this consultancy is to support research activities related to the Quality Improvement Process (QuIP) in Sudan, specifically within the Social and Economic Policy unit. The consultant will play a crucial role in finalizing the midline research design and protocol, amending ethical clearance, and training the fieldwork team. Responsibilities include ensuring the quality of field data, conducting causal analysis of interviews using Causal Map, and thematic analysis of focus groups using MAXQDA. The consultant will also be responsible for drafting the initial and final reports, as well as a concise brief, and contributing to dissemination activities. This role is essential for gathering and analyzing data to inform UNICEF's interventions and policies aimed at improving outcomes for children.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for several key phases of the research project. Inception involves conducting key informant interviews and desk research on maternal health, care practices, and gender norms. The design phase requires developing the final study design, research protocol, instrument, and amending ethical clearance. For training, the consultant will prepare and facilitate the QUIP enumerators training. Data collection monitoring and quality assurance of transcripts are also critical. The analysis phase includes elaborating the analytical strategy, cleaning data, and conducting coding and analysis using Causal Maps and MAXQDA. The consultant will draft the initial report and a report brief, and prepare for and present findings at a validation workshop. Post-workshop, the consultant will finalize the report and brief based on feedback. Finally, the consultant will be involved in dissemination activities, including creating slide-decks and delivering presentations as required.
Work Experience
At least 5 years of professional experience in qualitative research and evaluation, particularly in low- and middle-income contexts, with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa. Strong experience with the Qualitative Impact Protocol (QUIP) for data collection and training is essential, as is experience with QUIP analysis using CausalMap.
