Job Purpose
The Child Protection Officer, NO-2, will work under the overall supervision of the Chief of Field Office and in close collaboration with the GBViE Specialist. This role is crucial for providing oversight to ensure quality assurance and coherence with UNICEF’s global GBViE Operational Guidance and Core Commitments for Children in Humanitarian Action. The officer will support the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of GBV prevention and risk mitigation interventions in South Sudan. The aim is to ensure effective, results-driven programming that aligns with national and international standards, including UNICEF and IASC guidelines, contributing significantly to the protection of vulnerable children and adolescents in a challenging humanitarian context.
Responsibilities
The Child Protection Officer will provide essential technical support to UNICEF GBV and Child Protection partners, with a particular focus on women-led organizations. This includes guidance on GBV case management, psychosocial support (PSS), and the safe identification and referral of vulnerable children, as well as strengthening referral pathways. The role also involves supporting programming for adolescent girls and other at-risk children to enhance their safety, resilience, and access to vital services. Furthermore, the officer will support the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the Communities Care programme, focusing on strengthening community-based care systems, improving protective environments for women and children, and addressing harmful social norms and practices through coordinated GBV and child protection interventions. The officer will collaborate with UNICEF sections, the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare, and NGO partners, and provide technical guidance to third-party child protection consultants. The position requires regular visits to field offices and partners across Greater Bahr el Ghazal.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant work experience in emergency settings, child protection, gender-based violence, or child safeguarding.
