Chief Child Protection, P-5, Fixed Term Position, Kyiv, Ukraine, post # 00066605
Organizational Context
UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to save children’s lives, defend their rights, and help them fulfill their potential. We are committed, passionate, and proud, promoting the rights of every child as a calling. UNICEF offers diverse opportunities for professional and personal development, fostering a sense of purpose while serving children and communities globally.
Job Purpose
The fundamental mission of UNICEF is to promote the rights of every child, everywhere, in everything the organization does—in programs, advocacy, and operations. The equity strategy emphasizes the most disadvantaged and excluded children and families, translating this commitment into action. Equity means all children have an opportunity to survive, develop, and reach their full potential without discrimination. Unequal chances violate their rights. Investing in the health, education, and protection of disadvantaged citizens not only helps children fulfill their potential but also leads to sustained growth and stability for countries. This focus on equity accelerates progress towards realizing the human rights of all children, aligning with UNICEF's universal mandate outlined by the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Chief Child Protection ensures critical supplies and services reach the most disadvantaged children efficiently, ethically, and on time, strengthening supply chains and collaborating with partners to achieve sustainable, fit-for-purpose solutions.
Responsibilities
The Chief Child Protection leads and manages the child protection section, establishing comprehensive plans of action to ensure the achievement of concrete and sustainable programme/project results. This involves adhering to established plans, allocated resources, results-based management approaches, and UNICEF’s Strategic Plans, while upholding standards of performance and accountability. Key responsibilities include providing strong managerial leadership, guiding the team, and fostering a collaborative environment. The Chief is instrumental in programme development and planning, designing effective strategies and interventions that address child protection needs. This role also encompasses robust programme management, monitoring, and quality control of results, ensuring that all activities are implemented efficiently and achieve desired outcomes. Furthermore, the Chief offers crucial advisory services and technical support to government counterparts, civil society organizations, and other partners, sharing expertise and best practices.
