Job Purpose
The Cold Chain Officer is accountable for providing professional technical contributions to the project design, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and administration of Immunization (EPI) programme activities. This critical role involves comprehensive data analysis, robust programme support, and ensuring efficient delivery of immunization services. The officer will be responsible for accurate progress reporting and demonstrating a strong commitment to expanding immunization coverage, thereby contributing significantly to child health outcomes. A key focus will be on enhancing teamwork and building capacity within the Country Office, ensuring that all efforts are aligned with the planned objectives of the work plan and contribute directly to the country programme's overarching goals, objectives, and strategy. This position is vital for strengthening the cold chain infrastructure, which is fundamental to ensuring that life-saving vaccines reach every child, supporting UNICEF's mission to defend children's rights and help them fulfill their potential.
Responsibilities
The Cold Chain Officer ensures the availability of accurate, complete, and up-to-date programme and project management information, which is crucial for effective budget preparation, robust programme design, efficient implementation, and thorough management and evaluation processes. This role is instrumental in enhancing project efficiency, overall effectiveness, and expanding vaccination coverage through diligent implementation follow-on and continuous monitoring. The officer is responsible for the timely preparation of comprehensive progress reports and project work plans, alongside providing essential technical support in drafting donor, annual, and other critical reports and documentation pertinent to the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI). Furthermore, the role involves ensuring the appropriateness and completeness of all financial and supply documentation, strictly adhering to established allotments and financial guidelines. A significant responsibility includes strengthening the capacities of Country Office staff and fostering teamwork through targeted capacity-building activities focused on the development, implementation, and management of the Immunization Programme. The officer also promotes vital knowledge sharing with donors and media, and cultivates effective communication, networking, and collaboration with both internal and external partners to achieve programme objectives.
Work Experience
At least 2 years of relevant work experience in immunization supply chain strengthening, including the installation and maintenance of solar refrigerators and provision of technical support for other primary health care (PHC) infrastructure is required.
