Job Purpose
The primary objective of this consultancy is to conduct the SMART survey in Guinea for 2026, focusing on child survival and development. The consultant will be responsible for evaluating the nutritional status of children under five years old and identifying contributing factors to malnutrition. This includes assessing morbidities such as diarrhea, fever, and acute respiratory infections, as well as vaccine coverage, vitamin A supplementation coverage from the last national campaign, and infant and young child feeding practices. The consultant will ensure the survey adheres to the SMART methodology and produces reliable data for programmatic decision-making and intervention strategies aimed at improving child health and nutrition in Guinea.
Responsibilities
The consultant will lead and manage the entire process of the SMART survey in Guinea. This includes detailed planning, development of survey tools, training of enumerators, and overseeing data collection in the field. The consultant will be responsible for ensuring the quality and accuracy of the data collected, employing rigorous methodologies for data validation and cleaning. A key responsibility is the analysis of complex indicators, particularly those related to infant and young child feeding (ANJE), and other nutritional status indicators. The consultant must also manage the statistical software (R, STATA, SPSS, or equivalent) for data analysis and interpretation. Furthermore, the consultant will be expected to produce comprehensive reports, including a validated global SMART Team report, demonstrating excellent writing skills. This role requires close coordination with local authorities and stakeholders to ensure the survey's success and relevance. The consultant will also be responsible for the final validation of the survey results and dissemination of findings to relevant parties.
Work Experience
A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant professional experience is required, with at least five (5) years specifically in conducting or supervising large-scale SMART surveys. The candidate must have participated as a Chief of Mission or Technical Coordinator in at least three (3) national SMART surveys validated by the global SMART Team review committee. Proficiency in SMART methodology, ENA for SMART, ODK/KoboCollect, and statistical software is essential.
