Job Purpose
The International Consultant will provide crucial strategic, technical, and coordination support to UNICEF's engagement with the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and its role in multilateral processes, particularly the UN General Assembly (UNGA). This role involves actively supporting UNICEF's participation in GPE governance structures, contributing to strategic documents, and ensuring alignment with UNICEF's global education priorities. The consultant will also facilitate UNICEF's engagement in key UN processes like UNGA, ECOSOC, and HPLF, by preparing essential briefing materials and monitoring global education policy trends and political dynamics. Furthermore, the position will contribute to strengthening UNICEF's visibility and influence through strategic communications and the development of knowledge products, ensuring effective coordination with Permanent Missions and UN partners in New York.
Responsibilities
The consultant will support UNICEF's engagement with GPE governance structures, working groups, and strategic processes by reviewing related documents and providing input for UNICEF's strategic decisions. They will contribute to GPE strategic documents and participate in consultation processes, ensuring coherence with UNICEF priorities. The role includes tracking and analyzing developments in GPE processes and informing UNICEF Country Offices about relevant updates. In multilateral engagement, the consultant will support preparations for UNGA, ECOSOC, HPLF, and related UN processes by developing briefing notes, talking points, and background documents. They will monitor global education policy trends, political dynamics, and partnership developments to inform the Global Education Practice (GEP). The consultant will also support coordination with Permanent Missions and UN partners in New York and contribute to organizing high-level meetings, bilateral engagements, and side events, enhancing UNICEF's positioning. Additionally, the consultant will contribute to internal coordination on messaging, positioning, and engagement strategies, and assist in developing knowledge products to boost UNICEF's visibility and influence.
Work Experience
Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in education policy reform, international relations, or related areas. Demonstrated experience working at an international level, engaging in multilateralism within the education sector, and experience with UNGA and/or multilateral processes are required.
